So, Sew Sew Sew

Hi Everyone!

Had a lovely day today with my friend Jan who came over for a visit.  We baked a pizza and had a good gab fest!  Always good to spend time with good friends.

As for my sewing I still have to put the binding on my scrappy quilt.

I have 30 butterfly blocks done

Got a bright throw quilt done and ready to bind

Bought the sashing material for my barn quilt.

Progress has been made!!!

And here is my helper.... cute Sugar!

Time to see if the February BOM's are out yet.  Then maybe I'll go thru my material and see it there is anything there to make some Easter place mats. :)

Keep on sewing......

Grow Your Blog

A special welcome to all of my new visitors following the "Grow Your Blog" blog hop.  A special thanks to Vicki at 2 Bags Full for organizing this again. I believe this is the third year and it is such an undertaking to make it all happen.  Be sure to visit her to get a list of all the blogs that are participating.

My blog is about quilting of all things.  I love to quilt, especially things for my family.  My grand kids are the recipients of many of my projects.  They always seem to like the quilts and bags and wall hangings that I send them, and that makes me happy.

I am not a professional quilter, but I am on a quest to become a better one.

I joined two BOM's this year in order to try different things and so far I am enjoying it.  It will help in my goal to get more done this year.

Please browse through my posts and I hope you enjoy yourself on your visit here.

I will be having a 'give away', which will be 5 purple print fat quarters.  All you need to do is leave a comment to be eligible to win.  I will draw a name on February 14th so make sure you leave your email.

Good luck.

Video and New Quilt Start

Do you watch quilting videos?  From time to time I do and ran across one I really liked the other day.  I am betting that you will like it too as it has short cuts for some neat blocks that anyone can do.

I previously showed you the material I wanted to use for my next quilt project

I decided to use the process used in the video with the center square.  Now I am not too proud to say that I look for deals on material.  I went into St. Vincents the other day while out running errands and found a soft pink standard pillowcase (in good shape) for 50 cents.  After washing it I was able to get 8 squares out of it. But I had to cut them 9 3/4". (video uses 10") I also bought a full sheet in a medium blue that will be more squares and I want to find another shade of pink to use.

Anyway, last night I cut out several butterfly squares that ended up being   5 1/4 ", but the process is the same and it really works well.

This morning I finished all 8 blocks and I must say it really is faster than all the piecing and cutting you would have to normally do.  I am all for fast and easy!

And the little seams on the back are all closed in and neat.  I love it!

So a quilting I will go....have a great sewing day everyone.

Scrappy Top

Today I finished sewing all the 9 square blocks together for the 'square' challenge put out by Pat Sloan on her facebook page. Since I challenged myself to make more quilts this year I took up the challenge.  I had a lot of fun with it, nothing fancy, just a simple scrappy quilt.  It will have a 2" cream border added to it and then it can be quilted.  Yay!

So for my next project I will be using a butterfly material I have had put away for quite awhile.  While out shopping today I saw a material that I loved and thought it would go perfect with my butterfly material.  Just have to plan my pattern and get started. After I do the border for the scrappy one of course.

I just love these, and it will remind me of spring.  What do you think?

Well, now I am going to get busy in the kitchen.  I'm going to make a casserole that will be like stuffed cabbage only easier.  No stuffing.  Just put cut up cabbage in the dish, add the seasoned hamburger, tomato sauce, cheese and onion and bake.  Yummy!

Hope you are having a great day.  Stay warm all of you cold climate people!

I'm So Busy!

I already showed you the finished Jan block for Pat Sloan's 2015BOM. I have now finished one of my Jan blocks for Quilt Doodles BOM which is this snowman block.

It is so cute and I am 1/2 done with the 2nd block which I will share when finished.

I have also been cutting and sewing 3" blocks into squares for a scrappy quilt.  I have 50 squares done and figure I need 80.

I have been using left over pieces and scrap material to make the squares.  I'm not used to mixing it up scrappy but it will use up a lot of my left overs!

Have a great quilty kind of day!

New Coat For The Dog

WELL, WHAT IS A MOM GONNA DO?

Well, first I got out what I needed to make the boy his coat! Cutting board, scissors, material and a pattern. I had just the thing I needed for a pattern, the old coat!

It's a nice coat, especially in the rain, but it's a little small.  Cut the material a little bigger using 2 layers of fleece.

Just happened to have this southwest piece - good for a little part Mexican dog.

I think he likes it, now if I could only keep those tiny feet warm!

The cat is telling him it is time to come in.

I sure do feel sorry for animals left out in the cold, so many freeze to death because someone didn't care for them.  Well, not my pets!  Stay warm yourselves my friends.

2015 BOM Projects

I got quilting fever and got ambitious.  I want to get a lot of quilts done this year so I joined Pat Sloan's Block Of The Month (BOM) for 2015.  I am not real good at piecing so this will be good practice for me.  Here is my Jan. block:

Not all of my points are perfect but I still like it.  As you can see, I am going 'country'.

I also joined Cindy at Quilt Doodle Doodles for her BOM this year.It is more for applique which I like to do.  It is a mystery quilt so I don't know what each block will be, but it is titled "Things I Like". I have all the pieces cut and ready but I have to purchase the cream colored background material when I go to town.  So I will show you January when I get them done.

Pat also has a 2 1/2" square challenge going on called "Hip To Be Square" you can check it out at the link.  Anyway I have been busy cutting up my scraps to do this also.  Certainly will keep me busy.

Will show more later, happy sewing to all.

Charm Squares

In 2015 I want to make a few new quilts and I visited Green Fairy Quilts for ideas.  I ordered some charm squares as I decided that I would like to try some charm square patterns  They have many to pick from and I really liked the ones I purchased.

This pack is fun and bright

Love the colors in this pack

And for my love of florals

Just can't wait to see what results I get from these.

I saw some wonderful wildlife material at Walmarts that I would like to get to make a bed quilt for my son.  He just bought his first house and I want to surprise him with a new quilt.  He is very into the outdoors and wildlife so he would like it.

Hope to have a busy year of sewing.  Are you working on anything new this year?
